You can apply to low ranked universities for M.S in Mechanical Engg. since your score is less. If you feel that you can improve your score, you should retake the test.
You can apply to the following universities:

    Pace University, New York

    Central Connecticut State University

City College of the City University of New York

    Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University

    Indiana Tech

    Johnson & Wales University

    Rowan University

    Hello,

You do have a sound GRE score to consider the US universities. However, it must be remembered that the GRE scores are not the sole deciding factor during the evaluation of a profile.

The university you have earned your Bachelors in terms of recognition and affiliation, TOEFL scores equally play a vital role. Apart from this if you have participated in any other relevant activity like projects these should be included since such factors make a profile impressive and different from others.

Now with regard to the job prospects after graduating from US, well of you course the chances are bright since today employers are seeking graduates with international experience in terms of education and exposure to the student life is on hike. International knowledge, cross-cultural communication skills, flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt to new circumstances are skills enhanced through study abroad that are important to employers in various fields.

Companies from countries around the world continue to invest in the international market. Through an employer's view point, a student who has studied abroad is self-motivated, independent, willing to embrace challenges, and able to cope with diverse problems and situations. Foreign study programs, especially those undertaken in a reputed institution, enhance employment prospects simply because more multinational organizations recognize a degree or diploma acquired from these universities.

The increasing job opportunities that come one's way are not to be missed. For those seeking a foothold in the international job market, internships are often found to be the most direct path as they encompass a wide variety of disciplines and locations. An internship abroad would thus open a whole world of opportunities for these students.

According to a June 2007 article in the Going Global newsletter, global executives say that “study abroad boosts employability” with the stated reasons :

    • Three out of four executives cite study abroad as important when evaluating candidates for junior-level positions.
    • Eight in 10 human resource (HR) executives surveyed believed that a study abroad experience was an important factor for overseas job placement within their companies.
    • Two-thirds (67 percent) of HR executives surveyed said that a study abroad experience within a culturally diverse student environment distinguishes a job candidate.

Based on just the GRE scores, you may consider the following universities :

    Drexel University
College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics

    Arizona State University
Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering Tempe Campus, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

    University of Southern California
Viterbi School of Engineering, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering

    University of Massachusetts, Amherst
    College of Engineering

    Good luck!

    Hello Vardhan,

I believe you might have started receiving admission offers from the Universities you have applied to.

Among the Universities you mentioned above in your query, I see very bright chances of admissions at:

    University of Pittsburgh
    Arizona State University
    SUNY Buffalo
    University of Texas at Arlington

As I do not have a complete idea about your profile unable to give you an idea about the remaining Universities as acceptance rate at the other Universities is a little less.

But still you can expect admission offers from them as well.

In case you have received any admission offers so far, I would request you to share results with us. This will help our future website visitors.

    Thanks!

I secured cgpa of 7.2/10. I have been working in ISRO for 2 yrs. Now i want to apply for MS in mechanical engg. in US. Will you please elaborate on the 3.0/4.0 criterion of cgpa by most of the reputed universities in the world? Do i satisfy this condition? What is the conversion scale?

    Hello Nishant,

    Apologies for replying late.

Considering your query, US follows a 4.0 scale of grading system to evaluate the academic performance of the students.

While we can convert our Indian percentage system in to 4.0 scale system, in most of the instances it has been seen that students with a percentage of 65% and above meet this requirement.

There are agencies abroad such as WES, World Education Services; ECE, Educational Credential Evaluators who evaluate credentials of international students.

The calculations are tedious and are based on the weightage of you credentials earned in different courses toward your degree.

    Hope this helps!

Feel free to ask for any further queries regarding your admissions abroad. You can reach me at ankita.arora@learnhub.com as well.

    Hello Praveen,

    Thanks for approaching Learnhub!

In reference to your query, while there is no minimum GRE score specific to State Universities in US.

There are Universities such as North Carolina State University which generally accepts students with a GRE score of 1300 and above. On the other hand State University of New York at Buffalo can accept a score of 1200 or so as well. Thus the score range across State Universities in Us varies quite widely.

But still you can consider that a GRE score of round 1200 and above as per the old GRE pattern and 310 and above in the new GRE pattern is competitive.

    Hope this clears your doubts.
