Friends, as financial aid is not guaranteed to every aspirant, I would like to know the total cost of studying MS in the USA. Please help
US Universities
fall under two major categories: public (state supported), and
private (independent)
institutions. International students’ tuition expenses at state
schools are based on
nonresident costs, which are still usually less expensive than
those of private
universities. It’s important to note that the cost of a program
in a US school does
not necessarily affect its quality. A brief idea can be got from
the following table:
| University Type | Average Tuition Fees (annual in U.S. Dollars) |
| Private Institutions (High Cost) |
$ 25,000 |
| Private Institutions (Low Cost) | $ 15,000 |
| State Institutions (High Cost) |
$ 20,000 |
| State Institutions (Low Cost) |
$ 10,000 |
The tuition fee is different for different universities and varies widely with courses. It can vary from as low as $ 5000 a year for state universities to as much as $ 30000 per annum for some private universities. For more specific details, please contact the universities.
Living
Expenses
The approximate
annual living expenses are about $10,000, which includes
accommodation as well as other
daily expenses. However, the expenses are different for different
people depending on the
lifestyles and this is just a rough idea. The main expenses can be
split up as:
| Rent | $ 400 per month (you can live alone with that amount in a place like Auburn or share an apartment with 6 people in NY) |
| Groceries | $ 100 per month |
| Utilities | $ 100 per month |
| Phone | $ 100 per month |
| Sundry | $ 200 per month |
So, about $1000 per month is a good estimation. Most people can survive with $700-$1000 a month. The key here is to share apartments/houses so that you save on the utilities, fixed charge portion of phone and to some extent on groceries.
thanx or ur information, and i need knw abt partime job oppurtunities while studying(us),and finanancial loans frm other banks
Hi,
You can work part time for 20 hours as most of the university allow their international students. Except for on-campus employment of 20 hours a week or less, F-1 students are generally not permitted to work in the US without prior authorization from Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Off campus Jobs may be possible to for students to avail of limited off-campus employment, which is subject to strict regulatory guidelines. It requires approval from US Immigration & Naturalization Service. This approval is not easy to get and depends on a special need.
Some universities in U.S.A. offers an option to students in all of their graduate Master’s programs to change to a "co-op" internship program after they join the university. In the "co-op" program, international students can work up to 40 hours per week in "practical training" jobs for which they are paid regular wages.
You can get financial loans form SBI, PNB, Bank of Baroda, Allahabad Bank, Andhara Bank near your region.
Hope this helps.
Best of Luck!
hi all,
i am a B.Tech student…i very confused as what to opt for specialty
while doing my master. i am from a computer background, currently
in my third year..any one please help me as what is good after
completing my engineering from computer science information
technology domain..i am very confuse to select the best field for
masters..and i will be very glad if any one could help…!!!
Hello,
The field of computers opens vista of options. The only concern here is to analyze where you want to be since most of the specializations are focused to offer quality education both theoretical and practical on particular career path.
Since you are considering options in the US and too in the Information Technology, you can consider the option to pursue a Masters in the same. Some universities like the Carnegie Mellon University offer the degree with specific specializations like E-commerce Technology, IT Service Management, Robotic Technology, VLSI etc.
As a counselor I would suggest you to go through the program profile of the specified courses and many more that are available in the US and then decide on the course of Masters.
All the best!

does the funding availability function?is it completely based on
the course or gre marks?and how much is the annual fee for MS in
MIS? is there MS in e-commerce
availability in many universities?..
Hello,
If you have a GRE score way above the minimum required score for the admission, you have high chances of getting some sort of Financial Aid (Scholarships, TA, RA, Fellowships) with admission. If you wish to get a scholarship you should apply well before the specified deadline. For instance, of the deadline of any university is 1st Dec, your application should reach the college / university by the first week of November itself so that the Admission Officer can evaluate the same and grant you scholarships before the funding gets over (in the university/department).
To read more on GRE 2010 and Study Abroad Scholarship you can check out our articles/lessons on the same etc. The total cost of studies abroad in USA, for Masters studies , ranges between 30-35 lakhs , for which you can opt for an education loan from Indian Nationalized Banks such as SBI, PNB etc.
Our FAQs on Study USA , will educate you more on the cost and expenses , along with the admission requirements (general) to get into a college in States.
For MS in Management Information Systems in USA, you can check out universities such as:
1. Ferris
State University
2. Loyola University
of Chicago
3. Golden Gate
University
You can check out these universities and fill up their forms accordingly. Our counselors will get in touch with you via email. Your Student Id will be generated once you fill up these forms and we will take forward your applications, documents etc.
Yes, MS in E-commerce is also offered by universities in
USA, such as:
1. Fairleigh Dickinson University (On Campus Program)
2. North central University (Online Program)

I have recently recieved an admit from Oklahoma State University for MS in Telecommunications Management for fall 2011. This course is offered by Spears School of Management. Can you please tell me something about the reputation of this University in Telecommunications Management and job prospects regarding the same.
Hello Viraj,
Though Spear school of Business is not one of the top notch schools for Management degrees, it does have an impact to consider a Telecommunications program from the university.
As per the information available the university happens to be the home to the Center for Telecommunications and Network Security and is also a designated Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education and Research.
With regard to the career prospects the Spears School Graduate Career Services has lot to offer from preparing to present yourself to the interview skills to land up with good prospects. The Spears School of Business Graduate Career Services even offer access to data bases of U.S. employers willing to sponsor visas and assistance with developing your job search strategy!
It is a place to be and all the best for a bright future.
Take care!
i am a btech 3rd year mechanical student.can u plz tell me which is better an MS from US or MTECH from india???i am confused
i am doing my BSc in India and i have heard that the minimum requirement for Ms aboard is 10+2+4 but after graduation i'll be having 10+2+3 years.so what should i do for an additional year.If 10+2+4 is not the minimal requirement then, which are the best universities to do a Ms aboard and how can i get a full scholarship.
Hello Sarfaaz,
Please note the pattern of 10+2+4, that is, completion of 16 years of formal education for a Masters degree is not the eligibility criteria in all locations. However, if you are considering education specifically in US, then the specified pattern is defined to be eligible for a higher degree beyond Bachelors.
As of now, the advisable plan of action to maximize eligibility for U.S. graduate schools is to apply for a Post Graduate degree here in India. A one-year university affiliated program will make up for the fourth year of a U.S. Undergraduate degree. However, you must remember that no standardized policy exists regarding the acceptance of such programs and some universities may accept the three-year Indian Graduation Degree for a few programs. A confirmation can only be obtained by either writing directly or formally applying to the universities concerned.
Also, the universities are not categorized according to the scholarship criteria offered to the international students but more so on the program and of course the location. Since the type of financial assistance available, the eligibility criteria, considerations, application procedure etc. vary in every location, kindly get back with your priorities and preferred location so that we can guide you further.
Also, for appropriate short listing of the universities, we seek more elaboration on your profile in terms of the test takes (GRE, TOEFL, IELTS), academic grades, academic background, preferred program for higher studies etc.
Take care!
