Applying to US Universities: Which one to choose? (Discussion)

While deciding on which university to apply, you need to consider many factors like ranking of the university, research interests, tuition fees, faculty, alumni etc. Geographical location also plays an important factor in selection. for e.g Dell which is based in Austin, Texas, recruits a lot of engineers from Texas A&M University, University of Texas. If you are interested in automotive engineering, consider applying close to Detroit, where big automobile giants Ford, General Motors and Chrysler are based.

I would recommend you to prefer graduate schools in California and Texas.

Hello chavsh,

I think work experience will help you in any situation. It shows that you have real hands-on job experience in the workplace. I think that schools will consider this as one of several factors in your application. Be sure that you are strong in other categories such as academia and test scoring as much as possible too!

  Texas A&M Kingsville is not a great college but at the same time it’s not that bad. I think you can defiitely considere this college for admission.
  
  Here is a review by the student of Texas A&M Kingsville…
  
  First off, I’m not here because I have to be, but because I chose to be. I could have gone to UT-Austin or A&M-College Station, which are Texas’ Flagship universities, but I chose to be here because it just seemed right for me. That’s what is important anyway. I’ve spoken with all my friends and relatives that have gone to different universities and all say pretty much the same thing, “It really doesn’t matter where you get your diploma, so long as you get one.” With this logic in mind, they are all doing really well. It’s a good school for the right personality. You come to get your education and then move on. Speaking of education, it’s very well accredited. The business books I have to read here are the same books written and used at other schools. (including Ivy League) Like anything else, learning is what you make of it. Great engineering, ag/wildlife, and science programs. For those of you who do care about name, Texas A&M-Kingsville and the A&M System says enough. (Still part of the Flagship university) To sum it up, I enjoy the small classroom environment. I have built relationships with students and professors alike because of it. Especially the professors. I can’t imagine asking for recommendation letters from professors that would probably look at me like I’m a stranger.
  
  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all perfect here, but I don’t think the negative outweighs the positive. Not by a long shot. It really is a jewel if you know what you want.

  California State University-Sacramento
  
  As far as my point of view is concerned, there’s a lot of potential in this school; it has really a good program for VLSI and fabrication on semiconductor device.The professors are very approachable and have very high profile resume which reflects their achievements of life. The sports facilities, libraries, classes are excellent. Getting part-time on campus jobs is a bit difficult and of course there is an Indian Community as well.
  
  Coming to job prospects there is a placement cell at the university which is very active. There are very good opportunities for placements as it is near Silicon Valley. Alumni network is also very good and is in constant touch. Getting financial assistance from this university is difficult but overall this is defnitely an university to be considered.
